Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning & Maintenance
Your FlowThru™ floor is built to handle real garage life — but a little upkeep goes a long way toward keeping it looking showroom-fresh for years. Here's everything you need to know.
No sealing, no waxing, no special tools — your floor stays looking sharp with the same basic upkeep you'd give any well-used space.
Everyday Care
Routine Cleaning
A shop vac makes quick work of dust, leaves, and everyday debris. A sweep or blow-off works just as well if that's what you've got on hand — the open-flow design lets most of it pass right through.
Spills
Oil, gas, and brake fluid won't stain or eat into the tile surface. Clean spills up as they happen with a rag, or use a mild degreaser for anything stubborn. The tiles are non-porous, so messes sit on top instead of soaking in.
Mopping
For a deeper clean, mop with warm water and a mild soap. Avoid anything abrasive that could dull the surface finish over time.
Deep Cleaning
For seasonal cleanups or bigger messes, a full deep clean only takes a few steps:
- Unclip a row of tiles to open up a section you can pull back.
- Hose or pressure wash from the back of the space toward the front.
- Add a mild cleaner to your water if needed for tougher grime.
- Let the area air dry, or sweep out excess water with a push broom.
You don't have to remove the whole floor for this — lifting the front edge is usually enough to let water and debris flush out underneath before snapping everything back into place.
The Full Slide-Out Clean
Because FlowThru™ tiles interlock into one connected sheet and aren't glued to the concrete, a standard single-car garage floor can come out as a single piece for the most thorough clean possible.
- Unclip the edge pieces along both side walls and the back wall, leaving the interior tiles interlocked together as one connected mat.
- Drag the whole mat out through the garage door and onto the driveway. With nothing holding it to the floor, it slides out as one sheet.
- With it fully exposed, pressure wash or scrub both the top and underside, and let it sit in the sun to dry completely.
- Slide it back into place and snap the edge pieces back on.
This works best on a single-car footprint. A full two-car sheet can get unwieldy to move solo, so for larger spaces, pulling and cleaning in sections — or using the everyday and deep-clean methods above — is usually easier.
What to Avoid
Harsh Chemicals
Skip bleach, ammonia, and solvent-based cleaners. They aren't necessary and can affect the tile's finish over time. Mild soap and water handles nearly everything a garage floor sees.
Pressure Washing
A garden hose is all you need. If you do use a pressure washer, keep it on a low setting and avoid aiming directly into the seams.
Seasonal Maintenance
Hot Weather
Like any quality polypropylene product, your tiles will naturally expand slightly in heat. If you installed wall-to-wall, leave a small expansion gap at the perimeter so the floor has room to move without buckling.
Cold Weather & Road Salt
The FlowThru™ design lets snow, slush, and road salt drain straight through to the concrete below, so it won't pool or get trapped against the tile. A simple rinse once temperatures rise clears out anything left behind.
Long-Term Care
Check Your Tiles Periodically
Every so often, give the floor a quick visual check for any tiles that may have shifted or loosened, especially in high-traffic areas. A simple press-down reseats them.
